Chapter 3.1: Required tools and info

OS:

We strongly suggest to use Linux or macOS to administer your HI-Stack. You can follow this guide if you use Windows but you will be required to install some additional software on your machine.

Software:

  • A browser. We suggest to use Firefox.
  • A terminal window
  • An OpenVPN connection manager. If you use a Mac we suggest to use Viscosity.

Domain:

The use of a domain (or subdomain) is not strictly necessary, but we will use a domain in the tutorial.

Dedicated server and optional licences:

You need a credit card to rent the dedicated server of your choice from Soyoustart.

You will need a credit card if you wish to upgrade your Proxmox and ClearOS licenses. They both release community editions that don’t cost a dime.

Credentials:

We suggest to copy all the info that you will need during the set up process on a text file. You can download a blank template from this link: HI-Stack_credentials.txt

Needed informations:

[Domain name]: XXXXXXXXX.XXX paste here your domain name

[Soyoustart user name]: XXXXXXXXXXXXXXX paste here the Soyoustart user name that you chose when you registered

[Soyoustart password]: XXXXXXXXXXXXXXX paste here the Soyoustart password that you chose when you registered

[OVH root password]: XXXXXXXXXXXXXXX you will receive this password via email from OVH

[ClearOS root password]: XXXXXXXXXXXXXXX generate a password and paste it here

[OpenVPN user name]: XXXXXXXXXXXXXXX choose a user name and paste it here

[OpenVPN password]: XXXXXXXXXXXXXXX generate a password and paste it here

[OVH main IP address]: XXX.XXX.XXX.XXX you will receive this IP via email from OVH

[OVH first additional IP address]: XXX.XXX.XXX.XXX you will receive this IP via email from OVH
